St Patrick's Day

This year for St Patrick's Day we went to downtown Columbia for the St Pats Festival.  I alllmost didn't go, just because I knew it would be a bunch of guys Sky works with and I didn't want to a crasher. But I am so so glad I did! Let me tell you, it was nuts!  Full of college kids, people so drunk they couldn't even sit on the curb, and yummy food and beer!
I seriously enjoyed just hanging out and people watching.  There were a ton of band there some I knew, like Chevelle and Josh Thompson, but most I didn't. Towards the end of the night we ended up in the country bar which I loved!  I had to sweet talk most of the guys into going with me but in the end we all had a blast!  Dancing and singing and laughing at a blondie that would not leave us alone!
So.Much.Fun

Valentines Day Inspiration & A Look Back

With Valentines Day fast approaching I had all these wonderful plans of DIY decorating and tutorials, but along with what seems half the world I got sick.  Some sort of stomach plague that had me laid up on the couch for awhile. While I didn't mind all the Emmett snuggles that happened, I definitely didn't get any projects done.  About a week before I caught the sickness I did finish a super cute Valentines Day wreath to add to my ever growing wreath collection (who doesn't love a wreath on the door!?) I grabbed inspiration from here and here and kinda did my own thing.  While this was a super simple wreath it was tedious!!

I love having handmade crafts around the house.  I think that it adds so much personality and character to the things we see everyday.  Since my stash of Valentines Day decor is sadly very small, I wanted to make a few  pieces that I would be able to pull from year to year.  Here are a few ideas that I hope that I cant still create before the 14th!
All images found via Pinterest, original sources here, here, and here.

Sky and I don't tend to put a lot of time and planning into Valentines Day just because it is only 11 days before our anniversary! Since I wasn't blogging last year, I thought it would be fun to take a look a Valentines Day past.

2011

This is my favorite Valentines to date.  We spent the weekend in Myrtle Beach where Sky proposed on the balcony of our hotel room.  It was the most perfect moment!  I was a total control freak when it came to everything about us getting married.  I picked my ring and I knew that he would be proposing on that weekend, and it was still amazing!  I am not a big fan of surprises so I knew that I wanted to be in on proposal. Lucky for me, Sky is way more laid back and puts up my controlling ways! haha

2012
Last year was super low key.  We went to lunch at McAlister's Deli (our first time), went to pick out some gifts and hung out at home.  Sometimes the best way to spend a holiday, especially one celebrating love, is to just be with the one who has your heart.

Hello 2013

Happy New Year!

{via}

I just wrote and deleted this whole big schpiel about how I don't want to make resolutions because who the heck ever keeps them!? However, as I sat a looked at that little paragraph, I figured, I have this new blog. Maybe this blog will help keep me accountable. Maybe I could look back on this post as motivation and remember what I felt was important to make 2013 the best year yet. So here goes, my resolutions:

1. Focus more on school. I am going to be super honest here when I say that I hate school.  Not an average hate but HAAAAATE school. I would rather be doing much more fun things such as a new DIY project, or playing outside with Em, or reading a new book. But dang it, I HAVE. TO. FINISH. MY. DEGREE!  I am putting myself on a mission this year to finish as many classes as possible without losing my mind.

2. Be craftier.  I have this enormous list of DIY projects I want to create that I am slowly making my way through. I am very happy to say that if you came over for a visit you would find many more self made decor than decor that was purchased. I love that!  It makes my house feel so much more inviting and warm!

3. Whip this booty into shape.  Ugh I was so lax this holiday season with the way I was eating.  So much eating out and so much junk!  Sky and I both are feeling like pigs and we are definitely going to be changing that!  I have such a sweet tooth and not much self will when it comes to the jar of cookies or the tub of ice cream, this has to change!  I am pretty much forbidding these items into my home until I start to feel better about myself.  I made a special Pinterest board to jump start my motivation.  I love that I have a place to visit if I start losing determination.  Check it out here.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and we wish you all the best in 2013!

A Homemade Christmas

In this house, we are huge advocates of homemade and Christmas time is the best time to create!  I have been a busy elf the past couple of days making gifts and wrapping!

I am super excited that we get to, not only, go home to Indiana to see family, we get to travel to Ohio to see even more family!  Family that Sky has never even met before!  Yay!  When my aunt was putting up my great grandma's tree some of her ornaments were so old they were falling apart, so she requested that all of the grandchildren make her new ornaments for her tree.  A little paper, lots of ribbon and some stickers, all picked up from the scrapbook section at Michael's and these amazing ornaments were born! They may be one of my favorites this season!

I think I might have seen these serving trays painted with chalkboard paint floating around on Pinterest recently but I have had these on the mind for awhile!  I picked up these trays at a yard sale over the summer and painted them with two coats of chalkboard paint I had stowed away.  They turned out exactly how I envisioned!

I am seriously stocked on ribbon. I have already gone through about 4 rolls that missed the picture. Sigh. Christmas ribbon is my favorite. Speaking of my favorite, this nutella hot chocolate. Make it!

If you are still buying your taco seasoning in those little packets, I HIGHLY recommend that you stop that. Make this seasoning.  Its way healthier, you know exactly what is in it, and you can make it in large quantities. I forgo on the red pepper flakes because of evil heartburn, but if heat is your things, go for it.  Here is the recipe!

A couple days ago, Jessica Garvin from Little Baby Garvin opened her Etsy shop up for half off prints and donated all earnings toward The Sandy Hook Elementary Relief Fund. There was no way I could pass up the opportunity to give to a much needed cause. If you are interested in donating please follow the link above.

Oh Christmas Tree

Oh Christmas Tree

We finally got a tree!  I am so stinkin excited!  We went to pick one up the day after Thanksgiving but by the time we got to the lot they were all gone! Since then we have been on the hunt for the perfect tree, short and fat with strong branches and healthy needles!  (i'm not picky at all baha) Well surprisingly, we found our tree at Kroger!  Went to get some dinner and got a Christmas tree instead!

Emmett was not sure at all!  Lots of parking and jumping around. It was HILARIOUS!  He eventually came around and now he just stands and stares which is precious.  um and there might be some nibbling on branches : )

This is our first Christmas tree together! Last year we decided not to spend the money since we were going to be gone for Christmas but it was so sad!  Living in the south, we don't get much of a winter so when Christmas rolls around we have to make up for warm weather with no snow!  I think I could leave this beauty up all year!

I am linking up with Ginny at Chasing Sunshine to show off my beautiful tree!
